2900 children had a day of fun!

2900 children had a day of fun!

Date: 2016-08-19
2900 children from 38 children's homes and welfare organisations from the greater Durban area were VIPs for a day at the annual IBV Children's VIP Day, held on Saturday 13 August at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

The children were treated to a full day fun of, treats, games, food and pampering in the company of musicians, DJs and entertainment celebrities as part of IBV Humanities social responsibility CSI programme. Many of the city's leading corporates, businesses, civic bodies and service organisations joined hands to ensure the day was packed with activities and refreshments to entertain the kids; and they were all kitted out in tracksuits, takkies and TShirts, and took home books, toiletries and stationery in tog bags.

There was wall to wall entertainment on the stage, with a talent show for the children. There were performers and actors on hand to entertain the kids; including Undivided Roots; Riky Rick; Gemini Major; DreamTeam; DBN NYTS; Maps Maponyane; Aewon Wolf, and Sketchy Bongo in a programme hosted by Darren Maule and Lwandle Ngwenya.

"Since its inception, the essential purpose of this day has been to make a large number of underprivileged children VIP's for a day whilst business leaders play as reversal of roles as their executive helpers. A noble cause with one aim: to make a child feel loved, spoiled and pampered to his / her heart's content. Even if it is just for one day." said Yajna Ramsunder CEO: IBV Children's VIP Day and IBV Sarah Foundation Trust.

"The organisers are delighted as to the astonishing ongoing response and generosity from corporates, civic organisations, service providers, small businesses and individuals who have come on board and lend their weight to this innovative event to add value to the Children's VIP Day. We thank you, and we salute you," said a delighted IBV CEO Ashok Sewnarairn.

Next year, the approach will be slightly different. Understanding that many children dream of going to major international themed experiences, such as the Disneyworld parks - the IBV Children's VIP Day will be modeled on recreating something of a similar event for the children in Durban.

The 2016 was the seventh such event and follows on from similar events held since 2007. The line up offers fun and excitement for 2900 teens and pre-teens that live in children's homes and places of safety. They get a chance to meet some of their heroes from the stage and screen; participate in games and challenges; paint, eat, play, sing and create for a full day, while being supervised, served and assisted by executives who donate their time and skills to this worthy cause.

"It is through the sounds of their laughter and the sights of their smiles, that we will have ultimately achieved the event's greatest success," says Sewnarain.
