Diakonia Conference Centre Turns Ten!

Diakonia Conference Centre Turns Ten!

Date: 2013-11-29
The Diakonia Conference Centre, in Diakonia Avenue in the heart of Durban's city centre, will be celebrating 10 years of service to the community on Friday 29 November 2013.

The Diakonia Centre will be celebrating several milestones on that day. It has been 30 years that the Centre has been operating as a home to Durban's NGOs committed to justice, peace and development. It will also be 15 years since Diakonia Council of Churches took ownership of the Centre. The Conference Centre will also be celebrating 10 years of services to the community.

On that occasion, we will be paying homage to and acknowledging six courageous South Africans who played a major role in the life of the Diakonia Centre. These include Mirriam Cele, the late Archbishop Philip Russell, Reverend Dr Norman Hudson of the DT Hudson Trust, Ela Gandhi and the late Archbishop Denis Hurleywho, likewise have rooms named after them, as well asthe late Archie Gumedewhose name adorns and inspires the Centre's modern café. The function will also acknowledge Patty Geerdts who donated furniture to the Archie Gumede café as a gift from her son.
