Book Feast of Dance

Book Feast of Dance

Date: 2019-07-05

A treat for lovers of Indian classical dance by renowned dance teacher Sureka Singh has just hit bookstores. Titled "Insights and Impressions of a Bharatanatyam Dancer", it takes the reader through a step-by-step explanation of the dancer's storyline.

A focal point is the mudras or hand gestures. Singh is excited that after several years of research, writing and illustration the book is now available to the public.

"I want to thank my guru Savitri Naidoo, my parents and my students for the great inspiration to grow in dance but also to write this book to keep the art alive," said Singh. Its publisher, Anivesh Singh of MicroMega in Durban North shares both her name and a love of the classical artform.

He said that the book was "a wonderful reference for both young dancers and people who just love dance". A unique aspect is the specially commissioned paintings and photographs, which enrich Singh's in-depth narrative.

The book will be launched around the country and presented at the monthly Durban Book Fair at MitchellPark on Sunday, 7 July. Readers can enter a lucky draw for the book by texting the word "Bugle" together with your name to 083 778 1991 by 8 July.
