Mediclinic Victoria Pregnancy Day a success

Date: 2013-03-07
Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenting is a huge adjustment from the once care free lifestyle with your partner.

Mediclinic Victoria hosted an informative and interactive Pregnancy Awareness Day on Saturday, February 16. The aim of the programme is to assist couple deal with the adjustment.

Mediclinic Victoria Client Services Officer said the hospital believes it is important to empower patients to take charge of their health.

"This can be achieved together with our orchestrated and practical team of experts in an exacting and deliberate way through a human approach."

Speakers on the day provided parents with an understanding of what they can expect.

Obstetrician gynaecologist Dr SP Moodley informed the guests about the changes to mums anatomy to accommodate the growth of the baby, bonding as well as sexuality for expectant couples and delivery options.

Taking home a new baby can have mixed emotions. One is excited about the new addition to the family as well as apprehensive about how to care for a newborn.

Specialist paediatrician, Dr RC Naranbhai, alleviated fears parents experience while taking care of their newborn.

Maternity unit manager, Sister Kribashni Gounden said Mediclinic Victoria offers an exclusive programme to all parents whose babies are born at the hospital. "The programme includes registration on our online service where parents will receive weekly information and invitations to hospital events. You also stand a chance to win a R100 Huggies discount voucher. We also offer antenatal classes to empower parents to make informed decisions about labour, pain relief and general babycare."

You will receive the following while in hospital - a luxury baby bag with everything your baby will need for the first few days; a certificate and baby's footprint; the option to have a photo displayed on the Mediclinic website; a special celebration surprise for new parents; baby's first immunisation and assistance with baby's birth registration with the Department of Home Affairs.
