Sandra donates to Open Door Crisis Centre

Sandra donates to Open Door Crisis Centre

Date: 2013-11-15
With quaint and classy retail lingerie outlets situated in Durban North and Kloof, Satin Candy stocks everything from bras to sleepwear to fun underwear to bra accessories. Unlike the seemingly impersonal shopping experience in large department stores, Satin Candy allows every woman to indulge her love for both pretty and practical when it comes to picking out every day as well as special items.

Owned by Sandra Thomas, not only is she passionate about women finding the perfect fit, her mission for women leaving her stores is for them to feel uplifted, special, comfortable and beautiful.

With that being said, once her patrons have been fitted, she encourages them to hand in their unused bras in order for them to be donated to a cause such as the Open Door Crisis Centre, as opposed to just throwing them away!

On receiving the generous donation from Sandra, Thora Mansfield from the Open Door Crisis Centre based in Pinetown said, "Many of the women we work with do not have the luxury of being able to afford a beautiful undergarment. The provision of this generous donation is a wonderful way for us to give back and offer a little self-worth and dignity".

Thora, who has a delightful sense of humour but who, by no means, was making light of the gravity of the awareness campaign, then said, with a twinkle in her eye, "This is a social UPLIFTMENTproject that is two-fold".

Thora went on to say that their priority with this campaign is to not only rebuild victims' self-worth, but to raise as much awareness during the 16 days of Activism against abuse of women and children. This provides a platform to educate the public on the seriousness of the issue of human trafficking and abuse. Exposure of this challenging problem is so extremely important, as awareness is the first step toward finding an effective solution. In addition, an integral part of any "activism" is to provide a form of victim empowerment - so if we, alongside Satin Candy, can offer some comfort with the 200 items of undergarments that are supportive and comfortable to wear, then that is cherry on the top.

If there are any organisations who would like to contribute to this worthwhile cause, please email thora@opendoor.org.za or contact Jacquie, the Fundraising Coordinator on 082-4431929 or 031-7092679 during office hours or go to https://www.opendoor.org.za
