Ten finalists named in the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award

Durban - Ten student designers won through to the final stage of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award, brought to you by Canon, at a heady evening of high fashion at Greyville Racecourse. Facing a panel of judges made up of designer Zama Mathe, stylish Candice Drury, fashion journalist Debbie Reynolds, Sindi Shangase of the eThekwini Municipality and Gold Circle's Monica Holman, 30 models parades outfits designed to the theme "Posh? Oh My Gosh!" while their anxious student designers watched from the wings as their colleagues bayed their support from the audience. The judges settled on ten finalists who will go through to the Vodacom Durban July Fashion Showcase evening on Wednesday 19 June where they will face a new panel of judges, who will settle on the eventual winners, who will only be announced on the Vodacom Durban July day. The winner will receive a KZN Fashion Council Mentorship Package valued at over R30 000, a Travel Package to London to the value of R15 000 from the KZN Fashion Council, R10 000 from Gold Circle, a BlackBerry Q10 smartphone, a R5 000 Gift Card courtesy of Gateway Theatre of Shopping, Ironfist footwear to the value of R5 000, a Citizen Eco Drive timepiece, a Sunglass Hut Gift Card to the value of R2 500, a Moonlight Night Spa Voucher to the value of R1 100 courtesy of Mangwanani African Day Spa, a Kiss Pamper Hamper and a Mango national return flight. The evening ended with a stunning collection from iconic designers Haroun hansrot, Kathryn Kidger, Claire McKenzie, Zama Mathe and Karen Monk Kljinstra, showcasing some of their signature designers The ten finalists of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award, brought to you Canon:?Tyla Gormley, Sumaiya Ballim, Keegan Anderson, Mbali Memela, Michelle Bain, Kendall Cocking, Brooke Warwick and Danielle de Bruyn (all DUT),Thando Dlamini (Lindiwe Khuzwayo Academy) and Nontethelelo Shelembe (Pietermaritzburg School of Fashion).
