The KZN Law Society Meets

The KZN Law Society Meets

Date: 2017-11-01
The KZNLaw Society Annual General meeting was held at the Coastland's Hotel on the 20th of October.

The meeting was chaired by outgoing president Umesh Jivan with Prof. Tim Noakes as one of the speakers.

It was a morning of networking, reflections and motivation as Umesh Jivan thanked his peers for their vote.

"I was introduced to the concept of law, justice and political history as a teenager after having read the autobiography of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi subtitled "The story of my experiments with truth". Said Mr Jivan.

"After having read the book I was determined to pursue a career in law and my experiences as an Attorney have been both fulfilling and rewarding. Political history continues to remain one of my favourite interests."

"My special thanks to our keynote speaker, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Mlungisi Zondo of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, as well as Professor Timothy Noakes of the University of Cape Town (Division of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine), Dr Hemant Ranji Nowbath (Specialist Psychiatrist at the Mount Edgecombe and Umhlanga Hospitals) and Mr Brendan Hughes (Attorney and Company Director of Infology).

"I thank my fellow councillors for their confidence and determination in dealing with the very serious issues that we were confronted with during my tenure."

Mr Jivan also thanked the staff and managers of the society for their co-operation and availability whenever he called for their assistance and despite the end of his term as President of the society, he promised to continue to serve the Attorneys' profession and the public in any way possible.

Mr Jivan has been re-elected as a councillor of the society and he will continue to serve the attorneys profession in this province until August 2018.

"I wish the new President Asif Essa all the best for his term of office and I offer my assistance whenever he needs it." Concluded Mr Jivan.
