Promoting Success Through Parent Involvement at New Hanover Preparatory School

Promoting Success Through Parent Involvement at New Hanover Preparatory School

Date: 2015-02-06

Many years of research show that involving families and the community contributes to children's academic and social success. Families have a major influence on their children's achievement.

Planning regular events that bring staff and families together for positive inter-action is one effective way used at New Hanover Prep to create a family-friendly school environment. These informal gatherings help educators to "make connections and build relationships" with families.

In the first week, parents joined their children at the opening assembly and blessing in the church. They attended the "Meet -the-teacher" information evening and participated in a fun tennis and cricket morning which ended off with a picnic under the shady trees.

Feeling welcome at school, encourages families to become more involved in activities to enhance their children's learning. In this way we aim to "create a climate in which every aspect of the school is open and helpful."
