Soul Food

Soul Food

Date: 2017-08-11

The beautiful Winnie Nzuza, the Sous Chef of La Piazza has made her culinary hobby, passion & love for food her chosen career.Born in Eshowe and now living in Shakaskraal with her 2 talented young girls; Samkelo & Owami, Winnie is committed to using her skill and love for the food industry to create a better future for her children and herself.

Being a Chef is not as glamorous as one sees it to be and for Winnie it is no different. She is always working under pressure to deliver the food fast without sacrificing quality throughout the process as she wishes her patrons to be happy. 'Food must be attractive and I take personal interest in ensuring the plating of our dishes are perfect.' Says Winne.

At home she believes that cooking healthy is actually cheaper than all the rich fatty foods we expose our bodies too. Her favourite food is putu and spinach and also roasted veg with grilled chicken. Winnie cooks for all her family events and now has her parents on a healthy eating program that has helped their Diabetic status.

She proudly acknowledges Jacky Roy from Food Matters and Larry the Head Chef of La Piazza for kindly teaching her all that she knows and creating this desire to do her best. She has dreams of visiting other countries to experience their food and then create her own signature dishes. Winnie believes remaining humble and kind is the best respect that she can share with someone and appreciates honesty from all that she encounters.

In keeping with her Nazareth Baptist & Shembe culture, Winnie says, " My job and life is important and I pray to Unyazilwezulu to keep my family together and protect my children. I believe that Unyazi takes care of everything."

Sincerity and love for God makes one a very unique individual and La Piazza and us, the patrons are very lucky to have such a special lady preparing gourmet Soul Food.
