It was Lotus that 'showed them flames' this past weekend in Melbourne during the 2013 Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

Driver of the first car across the finish line, Kimi Raikonen raised everybody's eyebrows in surprise as he charged through the Red Bull barrier of domination to take the top spoit on the podium.

In a race that was not without incident, Lotus showed that their late season challenges from last year were made of substance and the brand is vibrating in its victory.

Red Bull's misfire started with from the gun, when Mark Webber's start saw him move from second on the grid, behind his team mate and last year's world champion Sebastian Vettel, to seventh place, before the first corner.

Then it was down to team management timing and most important of all, tyre strategy with Vettel the first into the pits to change his super softs.

However it was Kimi Raikkonen and Lotus' superior tactic of a two-stop race that proved to be the winning formulae on Sunday.

It was Ferrari that took up second place in the race while Sebastian Vettel fought hard to make his place on the podium. After Red Bull owned qualifying and had the first two places on the grid, Sunday's result might be an indication of what an exciting season we have ahead of us.
