Acting Mayor launches Maiden Project

Her Worship the Mayor (Acting) of KwaDukuza Municipality, Cllr. Dolly Govender, has today launched a multi-million rand project to upgrade internal roads in the Shakashead Township (Ward 04).

The project will address issues of accessibility thereby improving the commuter experience and also stormwater issues that have been long-standing in this community. The project scope includes establishing the site; clearing and grubbing; construction of 3,6km long by 5m wide blacktop road; preparation of sub-base and base layers; priming and premixing 3,6km by 5m road; construction of speed humps; construction and laying of stormwater drainage pipes; construction of inlet/catch pit manhole; construction of headwalls; construction of retaining walls; road marking of 3,6km long road; precast kerbing (figure 6 kerb) and cleaning and de-establishing from site.

The project value stands at R12 387 317,62 including VAT and is expected to span over six months.

I am particularly happy that this community waited for this long without burning tyres, you remained calm. That is why today we have finally come to you to upgrade all the non-conducive and muddy roads tblacktop."
