IPSS Now based in Palm Lakes Family Estate

IPSS Now based in Palm Lakes Family Estate

Author: Kasia Yoko
Date: 2017-09-22

The continued success and increased interest in the Palm Lakes Family Estate just keeps gaining momentum. Their record sales and their sustained growth has been an inspiration for developers not just in KZN but also in South Africa.

The recent announcement of IPSS medical rescue making Palm Lakes their home adds a new chapter to their ever-growing success. IPSS Medical Rescue began with a single ambulance in 2012, to service the needs of IPSS clients and to provide the community with a private ambulance service in the Isithebe and Mandeni area.

The positive response from clients and the community resulted in a second ambulance being added to the fleet to provide a greater area with their services. Since then, IPSS Medical Rescue has grown from strength to strength, with bases in Isithebe, Stanger, Ballito and Tongaat.

They currently operate 12 ambulances, 6 rapid response vehicles and 1 state of the art technical rescue unit equipped with the "jaws of life" and a jet ski for aquatic emergencies, and 1 dedicated mobile intensive care unit.

The Bugle recently spoke to Mick Furby, one of Palm Lakes' Retirement Village Trustees and Chairman of the Health Committee, about the introduction of IPSS being permanently based on his estate.

"By law every retirement village in the country has to have a reliable medical service provider." Said Mick, "We as a community have set out our parameters and they consist of a panic button, which is connected to a call centre. We also need a qualified nurse for house calls, two carers for daily visits and 24 hour medical assistance."

Mick hopes that IPSS will help the retirement village categorise their residence and make it easy to strategize the support units. "The retirement Village is made up of three categories." Mick told The Bugle, "The A category belongs to the frail with most care assistance, the B category is reserved for the able residents that can keep an eye on the A residents and the C residents are the fit and mobile members of our community."

Mick hopes that IPSS's experience and network will be able to manage and task work that will assist residents and give them peace of mind. IPSS is linked to Victoria Hospital and a registered Locum Doctor will be available by appointment once a month to the residents. There will also be physiotherapists and Biokineticist to assist residents with therapies on request.

Marketing director Olivia Roels Sak confirmed the appointment of IPSS Medical Rescue Unit in Palm Lakes Family Estate, they will be occupying the newly built clinic, which is based in the Retirement Village.

"We are really happy about IPSS joining our estate." Said Olivia, "This estate is geared at the happiness and wellbeing of our community. We hope that IPSS Medical Rescue Unit will assist the residents of our retirement village, ensuring each resident has access to medical facilities and proper care."

Carer Abigail Makhanya is originally from Tongaat and has been with Palm Lakes Retirement Village for the past fourteen months. She is a qualified home-based care nurse and she looks after about fifty residents at the estate. "I love the people here at the Palm Lakes Retirement Village," she said, "Each day I visit each resident and check their vital signs, their clinical appearance and basic signs of well being. We are not just care givers here we are a family."

Speaking on behalf of IPSS, Paul Herbst, a hero in our community, who for the past 17 years has been assisting and actively supporting the Medical Rescue Unit on the North Coast of KZN.

Paul is the operations guy at IPSS, looking after the entire fleet and logistics of the IPSS divisions. Palm Lakes Family Estate is a new project for IPSS Medical Rescue as they are branching out into the Retirement Estate Division.

IPSS Security Operations is an owner-managed company based in Isithebe, with offices and services based throughout KZN.IPSS has been offering tailored security solutions to clients since 1985. In 2001, IPSS was purchased by Mr Dylan Meyrick, and has since expanded to provide security and medical services to clients throughout KZN, with the KZN North Coast being their primary focus.

"We are really excited to be joining the Palm Lakes Family Estate." Paul told The Bugle, "We have taken over a situation that has undermined trust with the residents and we are here to put care back into patient care. We have hired a new team to head out operations in Palm Lakes. A respected and trusted local nurse, Maxine Blane will be in charge of the daily nursing support."

Medi Clinic is also on board with Dr Grant Lindsay who has also come on board. Dr Lindsay, is a Personal doctor to the royal family of Saudi Arabia and will be available for monthly consultations on the estate and is also on a 24-hour call out to Palm Lakes Retirement Village residents.

"IPSS Medical Rescue division is devoted to our local community." Paul told The Bugle, "Our growth has been accredited to our staff, who are committed and passionate about saving lives."
