Most people picture stoners lazing on the couch and eating junk food all day, so it might come as a surprise that although exercise and cannabis might seem like unlikely companions, many people feel that their focus, performance and recovery are boosted when combined with the use of this awesome herb.

When I was using cannabis oil to heal my breast cancer, I also started yoga as a medium to enhance my healing. It made sense to me that improving my blood circulation to the tippy-tips of my being would ensure that the benefits of the cannabis would be carried throughout my body and therefore allow for maximum healing.

As the years passed and I continued doing both yoga and cannabis, I began to notice that when I do consume cannabis before doing yoga, my focus is more concentrated and I'm more able to release tension and resistance easier, which also allows me to go deeper into the stretches and, ultimately, I end up working much harder. I also enjoy the experience of working my body a lot more when I combine yoga with cannabis.

I'm not alone in understanding the benefits of using cannabis and yoga to enhance one another and when I looked into it I found that in the ancient Hindu traditions, many believe that Lord Shiva was responsible for giving humans the knowledge of both yoga and cannabis at the same time.

More and more people are now using cannabis as a way of connecting with themselves and allowing themselves to enter a deeper state of meditation while doing yoga. There are even classes offered where participants are encouraged to consume cannabis beforehand in order the heighten the yoga experience.

However, cannabis doesn't just pair well with Yoga, it has also been shown to be beneficial for workouts in many other ways. For one, a study by the American Journal of Medicine discovered that combining cannabis and exercise can actually boost your metabolism by lowering insulin resistance. Results indicated that cannabis actually trains the body to burn sugar for energy, which decreases the amount of stored sugar in the body and improves metabolism. So despite an increase in appetite, cannabis users have been shown to have smaller waistlines.

Other athletes use cannabis to help recover from stiff and sore muscles after a workout. Cannabis has been shown to be a great pain reliever and so it makes sense that it would help speed up recovery post workout, reducing inflammation and associated pain.

So if you've been looking for a way to make exercising more fun and "uplifting" or you're wanting a deeper focus while exercising, then you may want to try combining it with a little cannabis to heighten the experience.
