KwaDukuza to get R1.5 Billion Investment

KwaDukuza to get R1.5 Billion Investment

Date: 2017-06-02

Mr. Vivian Reddy's Wheel of Fortune for the people of Greater KwaDukuza is now spinning at full throttle by the announcement at the Sod Turning for a R1.5 Billion, KwaDukuza Precinct Mixed Use Development, the largest ever investment in the history of the ILembe District. The function was officiated by MEC of Economic Development Sihle Zikala and Mayor of KwaDukuza Councilor Ricardo Mthembu and leading business persons from the area.

By all accounts this Trailblazing Landmark Development in the heart of KwaDukuza will regenerate a town where time has stood still in terms of major infrastructure and commercial developments. Conceptually, the KwaDukuza Regional Mall & Mixed Use Development will celebrate and uphold the legacy of the 'Zulu Kingdom' and 'King Shaka' within the Town of 'Stanger', affording its people the convenience and leisure of working, shopping and playing within its own precinct.

The phase one of the project a 30000 sq m Mall will open in Sept 2018 and contractors are on site Mr Reddy said the Mall will host over 120 National, Regional and Local Stores comprising Fashion, Grocery, Restaurant, Banks, Services and Homeware Stores with 30 percent of the letting space reserved for local KZN retail operators. The Mall is already 85 percent let with the major anchors being Woolworths, Checkers & Pick & Pay.

The development will include a state of art new Civic Centre for the KwaDukuza Municipality, a 10000 square meter Value Center, Medical Centre, and 25000 square meter of offices.

The investment by Philanthropist and Property Developer, Vivian Reddy will be the major catalyst in the re-generation of KwaDukuza. Continuing with their commitment, Mr. Vivian Reddy and the Edison Property Group, through this project are to create employment and skills transfer opportunities from the construction phase right into its completion. An independent assessment concluded by Urban Econ, development economists indicate that as much as 2437 direct jobs as well as 1893 indirect jobs, are anticipated to be created from this project.

This prestigious new mall will create over 500 new permanent jobs after completion of the Energy efficient linear mall, which will have 1200 parking bays, pedestrian access, taxi and bus facilities. A pedestrian friendly development, public squares and park like facilities are key attributes of the development. The tourism and SMME sectors will also flourish through the development and will be actively promoted.

A total of R 1.9 billion of new business sales will be created and injected directly and indirectly into the regional economy. The development concept and ensuing brand sought to embody the social imperatives of cohesion amongst the local cultures that exist in KwaDukuza today, providing a functional regional public sector with business growth and a user friendly Shopping Mall, and ultimately serving as a catalyst for further economic growth objectives in response to the needs of the people and the town of Stanger.

"Our promise to the community and citizens of KwaDukuza is to create sustainable Jobs and skills transfer; social cohesion and providing a better quality experience for the citizens frequenting this development" said CEO Pregan Naicker.
