So here we are 2013 it almost did not happen

So here we are 2013 it almost did not happen

So here we are 2013 it almost did not happen, thank God our interpretation of the Mayan's calendar was wrong and we could all breath a serious sigh of relief! The world has not ended and we get to live a little longer that is until the next Armageddon scare, which should surface soon, I am sure of it.

There are so many theories about the inevitable end of the world and they all fascinate me. I love reading about Nostradamus' predictions and I get a thrill just thinking that one of these guys might actually be right. However I am also very aware how unlikely a prediction by an unknown source would actually change the state of affairs in our universe.

My neighbour has a pretty interesting explanation regarding the Mayan end of the world and I guess deep down inside I believed that the end, that we were so anxiously anticipating, had something to do with the change that is taking place in our consciousness.

As the world sinks deeper and deeper into a state of unrest and war - millions of people world wide are taking to the streets in anger and despair, an awareness is building up in the hearts and minds of people from all walks of life as they unite to put a stop to the injustice which is taking place in the name of FREEDOM.

Having recently visited the place of my birth and driving through the Auschwitz War Museum, I cannot stop thinking how different things would have turned out if people just spoke out sooner and stood up to the madmen politicians and gruesome dictators of that era.

Recent caricatures of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, which are being displayed in the protests taking place around Europe, depict her sporting Hitler's famous moustache and an SS military uniform.

During Second World War, the Nazi's famous motto was "Arbeit macht frei" (labour makes (you) free) is not so different to the philosophy Merkel is preaching to the world's leaders. More and more people around the world are feeling like prisoners, as inflation rises and the cost of living becomes overwhelming.

For those who have never experienced war and displacement, oppression and hunger it might be hard to believe why anybody would want to take time from their lives to protest.

However for most people speaking out and voicing their anger in city squares, internet sites and through the media is an important step to declare their personal outrage and proclaim their need to revolt. After all, 'those who forget the past will live through it again.'

Having the privilege to travel and being able to communicate with people from all walks of life, I know that change is inevitable and the end to human oppression has to come soon.

The need to live in transparent economies is becoming more and more obvious and the likes of Merkel are just fuelling the anger and disdain in the minds of the people in the free world.

Some wise guy once said that the only constant in this world is change. With every passing second change is happening around us, it is up to us to formulate the change we want by our actions and our deeds. Seems simple and I guess in a way it is because what is the alternative?

Sadly, the alternative is to do nothing
With this let us welcome the new year and lets make 2013 the year that counts the most not just for us and our immediate environment - let us try and change the world and turn it into a place we live and love and laugh and share and be one Happy New Year everybody!
