Sibaya to host inaugural World Thunee Championships
A whopping R150 000 will be up for grabs when Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom hosts the inaugural World Thunee Championships at its Imbizo Conference Centre on December 7.
General manager, Myan Moodley confirmed that they were expecting close to 500 participants, making it one of the largest thunee competitions on record.
"It's going to be one big fun day with the fierce competition, accompanied by lots of activity and entertainment attached to the tournament.
"Already, we are getting enquiries from afar afield as Cape Town and Johannesburg.
"So, expect a full, nationally-representative field," he said.
Event manager, Anandh Perumal said the event co-incided with 1860 celebrations that were taking place around Durban.
"It is a nice co-incidence, considering many believe that Indian indentured labourers brought thunee into KZN.
"In many ways therefore, we will be adding to the celebratory spirit of this period.
"We look forward to a highly-competitive atmosphere at the event," he said
Entry fee will be R500 per team and the prize distribution is: 1st: R100 000; 2nd: R30 000 and 3rd: R20 000.
There will be several novelty prizes on offer and spectators are welcome.
Teams can enter by emailing to anandh.perumal@suninternational.com or 083 609-8168.
