Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award presented by Durban Fashion Fair

Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award presented by Durban Fashion Fair

Date: 2015-07-03
Sparkling runway lights, glamorous cruise couture and encouraging cheers were served up at the glitzy 'Captain's Table' themed Vodacom Durban July Fashion Experience Show, where ten student designers booked their berths in the final of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award presented by Durban Fashion Fair.

Twenty five striking and out-of-the-box designs inspired by everything from the posh cruise liners to colourful ocean life were scrutinized by the expert panel of judges consisting of Greg Wallis, Kathrin Kidger, Zama Mathe, Monica Holman and Sindi Shangase.

At the end of the show the names of the ten aspiring KwaZulu-Natal fashion students who had made it through to the next round of the popular design competition were announced.

Durban University of Technology provided six of the ten finalists, Inscape one and three finalists were from Pietermaritzburg's design colleges the School of Fashion and the Steenkamp School of Fashion. Each of the ten finalists won R2000 from Gold Circle.

The eventual winner of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award will win a trip to the New York Fashion week, travelling business class on Delta Airlines, R10 000 in cash from Gold Circle and Schweppes, a smartphone from Vodacom and a host of other prizes, with the second and third placed students earning R3000 and R2000 respectively.

Anticipation is steadily mounting for Vodacom Durban July on July 4 when the winner of the Vodacom Durban July Young Designer Award competition will be announced on the Action Stage.
