Generosity for local NGOs from Korea

Date: 2021-11-25

In response to the devastation experienced after the recent riots and looting, the Korean Embassy and several Korean businesses rallied together to raise funds for four local NGO's in KwaZulu-Natal. Over R500`000,00 in cash and product donations was raised and handed over at an official ceremony on the 16th November at the Capital Pearl Hotel in Umhlanga to representatives from iKhethelo Children's Village, Open Door Crises Centre, Ukuthula Trust and LIV Village.

Mr. Kwang-Jeon Lee, Chairman of the Durban Korean Association, welcomed guests to the handover ceremony followed by an address by the South Korean Ambassador, H.E. Chull-joo Park.

Dr Nonhlanhla Mkhize, Director-General from the Office of the Premier in KwaZulu-Natal was also in attendance and gave a vote of thanks in her address to guests.

Donators included the Korean Embassy, KOTRA, the Korean Business Club which consists of more than 30 corporate companies including LG Electronics SA, KEPCO Africa, KEPCO KPS SA, KSURE, Afriq Fiber and the Koaf group.

"LG Electronics and Afriq Fiber, who suffered the biggest losses among Korean companies during the unrest were the biggest donors for this fundraising initiative. A truly inspiring and remarkable deed that illustrates the power in collaboration and selfless giving." says Kwang-Jeon Lee.
