KwaDukuza Municipality's women pray for an end to abuse against women and children
The Acting Mayor of KwaDukuza Municipality, Cllr. Dolly Govender, has just presided over a prayer session for women councillors and staff to pray for an end to abuse against women and children as well as to join hands with the rest of the world in condemning the senseless abuse and killing of vulnerable groups in society.
The prayer was held at the Municipality's Civic Building Gardens on Chief Albert Luthuli Street and attracted the attendance of the KwaDukuza Magistrate Children's Court and the local NPA Office who shared information on avenues that can be used to report abuse.
The women leaders have also signed a pledge to work harder to ensure that policies and enforcement strategies are implemented timeously so that those who abuse women and children are immediately arrested and face the full might of the law.
Her Worship, Cllr. Govender has also supported President Cyril Ramaphosa's call for NO BAIL and a FULL LIFE SENTENCE for rapists and has mandated the local NPA office to enforce this as well.
KwaDukuza Municipality strongly condemns the violence against Women and Children. The most recent cases of Jiyane Children in Pinetown District, KDM expresses its deepest condolences to families and friends of these women and children.
The issue of crime against women and children requires all of us to actively be involved in fighting it. As KDM we shall continue to strengthen law enforcement agencies in the fight tostopGender Based Violence.
A total of 54 Thuthuzela core centres across the country have been opened to serve as a one-stop facility to reduce secondary victimization and reduce the time of finalizing sexual cases. At least 75 dedicated sexual offences courts to deal with sexual violence against women. SAPS has established 1047 dedicated facilities for victims at police stations countrywide to accommodate and assist victims of sexual-based violence.
Over the years organisations such as Breakthrough Centre in Etete Ward 20 has religiously commemorated Child Protection Week. We, therefore, call upon parents, guardians and communities to work with Law Enforcement Agencies to protect our children.
