Get That GTi

Get That GTi

Author: Tomas Yoko

Well I have been spoilt with Volkwagen giving me both the new Volkswagen Polo GTi and the new Volkswagen Golf GTi Performance Pack to test drive.

I have always had an eye for that GTi badge, pun not intended, and I really enjoyed the punchy performance and spirited acceleration that the GTi badge offers, however there is so much more to it than just performance.

But don't get me wrong, the Golf GTi Performance Pack delivers 169 kilowatts of power, a significant step up from the standard GolfGTiand the Polo GTi now has the 1.8 TSI 141 kilowatt engine.

However driving these performance orientated pocket rockets is demanding and sometimes stressful, so it is pertinent of me to mention that Volkswagen have been very generous with their safety features and driver assistance.

Besides the lowered chassis of the Polo GTi with its McPherson-type front axle and torsion beam rear axle, the inclusion of Electronic Stability Control as standard was extremely wise and only to be expected of Volkswagen.

In the Volkswagen Golf GTi Performance Pack the DSG gearbox is standard, and what an amazingly responsive gearbox it is. Volkswagen have thrown in the Dynamic Chassis Control as standard as well.

Needless to say the braking on both GTi models was powerful enough to test the seatbelts if you wanted and the array of safety features kept me cool and confident even if I did exceed the speed limit just a little.

So whichever GTi catches your eye, get down to McCarthy Volkswagen Umhlanga and take one for a test drive. Call them on 031 566 9700 or just pop in and take advantage of the amazing Financial Year End Clearance Sale they are having. You will find them at 6 - 8 Sunset Crescent, Umhlanga Ridge.
