Last week The Bugle spoke to Cathy Jugmohan, the Head of Misty Blue Hotel School. Cathy has been running the Hotel School since February 2017.

The Hotel School is based in the Gateway Precinct and was founded by the owners of The Misty Blue Group, which owns and operates a chain of Hotels, Restaurants and Spas.

Vejan Pillay, a Director of Misty Blue said; "I saw the need for the school, we realised a great need for proper training for hotel staff." Vejan Pillay spoke passionately about the training they offer saying, "It is essential for the hospitality industry to provide excellence in service and professionalism when dealing with guests. In line with the Misty Blue vision of delivering excellence, the hospitality schools objective is to raise the bar in the training of students and preparing them for work in the hotel industry."

Vejan added, "The training is very focused and individualised and attempts to deal with all the challenges in the hospitality industry."

Misty Blue Hotel School offers a range of internationally recognized Hospitality Courses. All students will be placed in the Misty Blue Group hotels to complete the compulsory in-service component of their course.

Learners graduating with excellent academic and practical results will have the opportunity of permanent employment within the Misty Blue Group Hotels, where there are vacancies.

The Misty Blue Hotel School offers two courses:

Food Preparation and Cooking (Level 1 Certificate).

Which includes:

  • Safety at Work
  • Introduction to Nutrition
  • Prepare, Cook and Finish Foods using various cooking methods (Frying, Braising, Stewing, Boiling, Poaching, Steaming, Baking, Roasting, Grilling)
  • Introduction to Basic Kitchen Procedures
  • Introduction to the Hospitality & Catering Industry
  • Food Safety in Catering

Course Duration: 1 Year

  • Cost of course: R35 000 for one year.
  • Fees include: Registration Fee, Exam fee, Study Material, 2 Sets of College Uniforms & a Knife Set.
  • Registration Fee (non-refundable) R5000.00 required before commencing with the course.
  • Food and Beverage Service (Level 1 Certificate).
  • Which includes:
    • Safety at work
    • Customer Service in the Hospitality and Catering Industry
    • Food and Beverage Skills
    • Hot and Cold Beverage Service Skills
    • Menu Knowledge
    • Introduction to the Hospitality and Catering

Course Duration: 6 months

  • Cost of course: R20 000 for 6 months
  • Fees include: Registration Fee, Exam fee and Study Material
  • Registration Fee (non-refundable) R5 000.00 required before commencing with the course.
