Historic commencement of the long-awaited upgrade to the KwaDukuza People's Park underway
In a historical move to ensure the social upliftment of the people in KwaDukuza,KwaDukuza Acting Mayor, Cllr Dolly Govender has unlocked the first phase into the reconstruction of theKwaDukuza Peoples Park (Theunissen Road Park) at an astounding amount of R 12.5 million.
The upgrades will include the construction of the new parking area, ablution facilities, an amphitheatre, paved walkways, children's play area, an outdoor gym, landscaping and irrigation, braai facilities,picnictables and benches, park benches, refuse bins, perimeter fencing, lighting, bulk storm-water and bulk earthworks.
KwaDukuza Acting Mayor who is also the Portfolio Chairperson for Community Services & Public Amenities reiterated the commitment of council to the people through this project.
"We have investedR12.5 millioninto theupgrades of this project.The Council, as part of its organizational work, prioritized theconstructionof a public facility for the purpose of leisure and tourism development.
The project will propel KwaDukuza to become one of the major role-player in the region and contribute to tourism development and business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
This project is a direct reflection of some of the commitments we made during our Council Lekgotla in 2016 as part of our five-year Programme of Action.As a developmental state, we are committed to creating a better life for all. These are also some of the Back to Basics actions to ensure that government delivers according to the needs expressed by our communities as part of the municipality's integrated development plan",said Mayor Govender.
The project's date of completion is expected by June 2020.
