Bridal Fashion Week Extravaganza

Bridal Fashion Week Extravaganza

Author: Savanah Avery

On the 7th August; wedding planners, students and designers gathered at The Sibaya Casino in Durban for South Africa's Bridal Fashion Week, to take note of the latest styles of bridal fashion.

Dimmed lighting shone through draped fabrics and rococo decor creating a traditional ambience. An elegant solo ballet performance opened the show, shortly followed by the work of students from 'The Academy of Fashion', Cape Town and 'The School of Fashion Design', KZN.

The array of international and local designers manipulated their garments to convey their personal styles through conscious design techniques and the use of elegant fabrics. Beaded embroidery was a popular feature used amongst the showcased work including that of Karen Monk Klinsitra and Bianca Warren. With some proving more conventional than others the designers were able to project their individual style through placement, colour and structure.

A crowd favourite was the Menswear design of David Jacquel. A bold deep purple block of chiffon separated a heavily printed ensemble; creating a fresh and exciting new perspective of the traditional suit, "Simple, but the fabrics talk"- Angel Ndlovu (a fashion design student who attended the show).

'Designer cakes from Myra' also made an appearance on the runway and a soon to be groom became the lucky winner of a R20,000 wedding planning package.

With a turnout that was expected to increase over the weekend; it is clear the show will continue to please. The event was described by aspiring designer, Wenzile Khumalo as "Amazing, Wonderful!"
