You Can Drive The Q5

You Can Drive The Q5

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2018-11-09

From the moment I started the engine on the Audi Q5 I knew I was about to experience something formidable. The spacious luxury of the driver's seat had me flapping my elbows in disbelief, I was prone to lounge in the sofa like space, until I pressed the start button.

The design language of Audi's interior expresses sophistication with an air of confidence. The metallic detail and the understated double stitching of the leather seats, all combining beautifully to create an environment that matches the prestige of the Q5.

The model I test drove had the optional Audi virtual cockpit, a fully digital instrument cluster with a high-resolution 12.3-inch display that managed everything from navigation assistance to music choice and aircon settings as well as a labyrinth of car settings.

The exterior body styling does not need me to gush at all, from whichever angle you look at the Audi Q5, you can be sure of an emotional response if not a physical one. This car more than just turns heads, it seemed to me as if I had transcended a social barrier into the realm of 'Super Achiever'. I felt really good driving the Q5.

And driving the Q5 was thrilling in every way, almost any landscape will succumb to the power and agility of the Q5. It may be a large SUV but it sailed through extremely rough terrain with ease, from super soft silky beach sand to jagged and rutted rocky ascents and boulder-strewn hillsides. Selecting driving modes with the Audi drive select system happened on the fly and the power delivery of the over 185-kilowatt engine was even scary at times. Of course safety is paramount with Audi so no need for that.

This is a car you really have to test drive to even begin to understand. The amazing developments with fuel consumption, even in the 2.0 litre TFSI derivative can achieve figures as low as 6.8 litres of petrol for 100 km.
