Once in a lifetime experience at Five Star Massage and Health Spa

Once in a lifetime experience at Five Star Massage and Health Spa

Date: 2015-06-19
Pui Hanmunee has grown up with Thai therapies, having been born and raised in a small village outside Chang Mai in Thailand. Pui has a deep understanding of the massage industry and its benefits. Four months ago Pui embarked on a brave adventure, opening '5 Star Massage and Health Spa' in Umhlanga.

Pui is a certified masseuse and her therapists all come from Thailand. Her spa offers authentic traditional Thai Massage as well as waxing, facials, slimming and aromatherapy massage.

Thai massage is believed to be at least 2,500 years old. The first masseuse is said to be Shivago Komarpaj, believed to be the personal physician to the Buddha himself. Thai massage involves various combinations of Chinese, Indian, and other Southeast Asian forms of medicine and meditation, specific to each person's individual needs. For example, it can be performed in conjunction with Eastern meditation, thus nourishing the spirit while relaxing the body.

Thai massage is sometimes called "passive yoga" because the masseuse mobilizes the client's muscles into positions similar to yoga poses and stretches. The client actively works with the masseuse in order to find the best body positions for relief of pain and stress. The masseuse uses not only his or her hands, but also feet, knees, and elbows to manipulate and relax the client.

In Thai massage, the client is being stretched rather than passively rubbed. He or she works with the therapist in positions such as the back position, supine position, assisted backbends, and more. This allows the client to experience the massage holistically so that after the session, he or she can choose to perform stretches at home.

Anyone can benefit from Thai massage. Pui and her therapists can tailor make ninety-minute or two-hour sessions to match each client's particular needs. This massage type is particularly recommended for those with tight muscles, arthritis, or degenerative muscle conditions. The stretches in Thai massage help retrain the muscles to bend and straighten more normally, thus reducing pain and stiffness. Each three to four hour spa treatment receives an authentic Thai meal.

If you would like to try Thai massage or if you have experienced it before and would like more sessions, make an appointment with the Five Star Massage and Health Spa today. Parking is available at the back of the building right in front of the spa. Call today to book your treatment on 031 566 1077.
