I recently test-drove the new range of 2.0-liter diesel H5 models on offer from GWM. I had the pleasure of testing the 2.4 petrol 4X2 to the diesel 4X4, and my experience was remarkably pleasant. The five speed automatic version of the new H5 provided ample levels of comfort as I whisked the family away for the weekend, up the side of the Drakensberg. I was thankful for the cruise control and the automatic gearbox behaved exceptionally well. The new GWM diesel motor produces impressive power at 110 kilowatts and ample torque of 310 Newton meters, more than enough for towing your boat or horsebox. The H5 comes standard with a three-year or 100 000 kilometer warranty and a two-year 24-hour Roadside Assist service.
I am personally taken by the sleek modern design of the H5 and very impressed with the overall package. It should come as no surprise that the GWM H5 produced fantastic results in the Dakar rally, finishing an impressive seventh overall.
The manual H5 I tested had the same gutsy 2.0-liter engine with a solid six-speed gearbox. The luxuries of a reverse camera, electric windows, climate control and a long long list of features had me marveling at the value for money that the H5 presents. You will be very hard pressed to match this offer. GWM is one of the international giants in the automotive industry and their product offering in the single and double cab bakkie market, is highlighted by the new Steed5. Available as a petrol or diesel derivative, the list of specifications is once again a long one with dual front airbags, ABS & EBD, aircon and power steering just for starters. Once again the pricing structure makes considering the Steed5 a 'no-brainer'. Having test driven the Steed 5, I can honestly say that you will not be left wanting for anything much with this powerful workhorse.
More exciting news from the car-maker is their latest model to arrive on South African shores, namely the GWM C10. The C10 is an exciting five-door hatch with a 1.5-liter VVT engine that puts out 77kilowatts and 138 Newton meters. Once again GWM have packed the car with features galore, including aircon, airbags, BOSCH ABS brakes, electric windows and a long list more.
This sassy new model from GWM is sure to raise some eyebrows with its modern fresh looks and of course, its amazing affordability.
As an owner of any one of the GWM products, you can rest assured that this manufacturer is committed to providing you with world-class support in the form of a multi million Rand parts distribution warehouse that is located in Glen Anil, Durban. This outlet has a remarkable supply rate, measured in the mid 90's and GWM are aiming for a 100% parts supply rate, utilizing an impressive system called Partrack.
