Grand Feasting at Fairmont

Grand Feasting at Fairmont

Author: Kasia Yoko

Feasting at the Asian Persuasion Buffet at the Coral Tree, situated at Fairmont Zimbali Resort, last Saturday night was an out of the ordinary experience. I always feel a sense of splendour when I dine there. It has something to do with the smiling faces that greet me as I step through the door, the soothing colour schemes of the decor, the vast windows that deliver those spectacular views and, of course, the uber comfortable seating.

The Asian Buffet is served on Saturdays and offers a wide selection of Asian style preperations to suit every palate. Chef Dean Uren spent a long time compiling the menu, researching the wants and desires of his customers and has arrived at a selection that includes something for everyone.

It's all about balancing the flavours at this buffet. Sweet and sour chicken meets savoury coconut stir-fry and salty fish. Flakey basmati rice perfumes the hot plates and there is just no way that you will be satisfied with just one serving. You will be compelled to go for seconds, and maybe just one Saturday will not be enough to experience this varied feast.

"Oh I so wish I had some space to have more of the buffet." I heard the lady to my right tell Garth Fuller, the Coral Tree's Food and Beverage supervisor. "Lets stick around for a while," Says her partner, "Maybe we can try some of those great looking chocolate spring rolls," as they settled into their armchairs. As I looked around I see a room filled with happy, contented faces. The atmosphere is conducive to grand feasting and nobody minds slipping deeper and deeper into their seat, allowing the meal to settle while sipping on a fine wine or aperitif.

There are no half measures here, Anna Chin performs wonders with uncomplicated and delicious Tapanyaki dishes. Anna is quick to recommend the individual flavour combinations while Sthembiso expertly creates sushi rolls, even to individual specifications.

Explore the flavours of Asia and the South Pacific with Fairmont's Asian Persuasions Buffet at Coral Tree restaurant, showcasing authentic dishes from Japan, China, Malaysia and Thailand on Saturdays. Adults only R175 per person, kids under 12 pay half price.

Fairmont Zimbali Lodge & Resort also offer other 3 other evenings as part of their "Great Flavours, Great Value" campaign.
