F1 Report

Date: 2014-07-11
The 2014 Santander British Grand Prix was packed with thrills and spills from the word go. Kimi Raikkonen exited Aintree bend a little hot and wide and as he corrected his line to rejoin the pack he hit a bump in the road and lost control of his Ferrari slamming into the barrier. He then careered back across the track and connected with Filipe Massa ending both entrants' chances for that day.

Lewis Hamilton's luck was quite the opposite on the day, the Brit fought hard from his disappointing sixth position on the grid after a poor performance in qualifying on the Saturday, to reach second place behind his teammate Nico Rosberg. It looked like Mercedes were going to maintain their throttlehold on the championship when suddenly on the 47th lap Nico's gearbox got stuck in gear and he was forced to retire.

Hamilton had make sure that he did not take the whole top of his head off with his helmet he was smiling so much at his win. Followed home by a very deserving Valtteri Bottas in his Williams-Mercedes who came second from 14th place on the starting grid.

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo fought hard with his one stop strategy and totally shot tyres to take third place ahead of Jenson Button and his team mate and defending champion Sebastian Vettel who came in fifth.

So the points standing sees Lewis Hamilton creep up to his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg who holds the lead with 165 points. Lewis follows with 161, trailed by Ricciardo on 98, Alonso on 97 Bottas on 73 and Vettel only managing 70 points in fifth place.

In the constructor's championship Mercedes are more than dominant with 326 points, the nearest competitor is Red Bull on 168 points followed by Ferrari on 106 and Williams-Mercedes on 103.

Next race day is Sunday the 20th of July in Hockenheim, Germany at 2pm.
