Special Needs School for Ballito

Special Needs School for Ballito

Date: 2013-04-05
Parents of children with special needs are continually faced with many challenges, one of which is how to educate their children In Ballito and the surrounding areas, there are no schools to cater for children who require long-term facilitation.

We have formed a committee of concerned parents, therapists and teachers who are passionate in putting together plans and goals to create such a school/centre where children can be nurtured and free to be who they are.

Our focus for the school/centre will be to look at children's developmental needs so that they can learn through growth and experience. Our vision is to create an environment where the classrooms are structured to meet each individual child in a small group. Where their character will grow and their minds will expand. Where they can play and learn together, whilst having fun with friends around them. We plan to have a holistic approach where together with the parents we can set and reach realistic goals. Various forms of therapy including Occupational Therapy and speech Therapy will be integrated into the school programme.

This school/centre will include children with Specific learning difficulties, Down syndrome and Autism. The initial age will be from 3-10 years of age, we will grow the school in age as the school progresses. We also hope to start support groups as well as vocational training facilities to provide a future for the learners that complete the programme.

Our group is calling on the community to assist us and work together with us so that we can make this dream a reality by January 2014, so that together we can make a difference in our community.

We will be hosting our first meeting at Simbithi Country Club on Wednesday the 24th of April 2013 at 6pm. Please RSVP if you would like to attend the meeting. For further information contact the numbers below.
