La Montagne Brightens Creative Space for Acacia Primary Learners

La Montagne Brightens Creative Space for Acacia Primary Learners

Date: 2018-01-19

Acacia Primary School in Verulam is the lucky recipient of a brand-new library, made possible by the Park Boulevard Centre community and La Montagne who assisted in providing shelves and paint to make the library a fun, clean and creative space for the 1070 learners ranging from Grade R to Grade 7.

The learners at Acacia Primary come from challenging socio-economic backgrounds with many living in child-headed homes, which do not have access to reading books.

Simon Bailey, the General Manager at La Montagne, said that he and his resort staff had no hesitation in supporting Acacia Primary School's cause in keeping with First Group's ethos of community upliftment.

Sheila Persad, a staff member at Acacia Primary, wrote in to The Cause to put her school forward as a possible candidate for the desperately needed library. "It is crucial to have books to improve literacy, learn new things and develop a creative mind in young children. When I read about the 'Build-a-library campaign' I had to see if I could make a small difference to the lives of our learners. I am ecstatic that our school has been selected. These children are going to love their new library and all the exciting books they are able to explore" she said.

This project follows La Montagne's recent participation in a number of charity-related projects, such as food donations to celebrate Mandela Day and sponsoring the venue for the hosting of the Mr & Mrs KZN Ambassador awards. First Group, who are the managing agents of La Montagne, has challenged their 60 plus properties to be industry leaders by creating a positive impact with outreach projects.

As Simon explains, "La Montagne is committed to supporting its local community at grass-roots level, where the benefits are long-lasting. When your destination is recognized as being genuine about helping its community, the positive impact is felt by your guests who are recognized by locals as being part of the solution."

He continues, "By doing all that we can to employ and upskill members of our community on a long-term basis, we can make a truly widespread impact and I'm proud to say that a number of our staff have been with us for decades and some of their children have even taken up positions with us. Hospitality is all about service excellence and we're delivering that through the La Montagne family."
