Talk on The Importance of D'Moss

Talk on The Importance of D'Moss

Date: 2018-01-19

An illustrated presentation by Richard Boon, Manager, Biodiversity Planning, Environmental Planning & Climate Protection, eThekwini Municipality.

The Durban Metropolitan Open Space System (D'MOSS) is a system of open spaces within the Municipality. It incorporates 74 000ha of land and water, including areas of high biodiversity value, linked together in a viable network of open spaces. Illustrative examples include nature reserves such as Paradise Valley, Burman Bush and Kenneth Stainbank Reserve, and large rural landscapes in the upper catchments and riverine and coastal corridors. Some areas of privately-owned land are also included in D'MOSS.

Richard Boon's presentation will focus on the importance and history of the Durban Metropolitan Open Space System, opening our eyes to the integral roles these spaces play within eThekwini.
