Mayor supplements service delivery with new tools of trade in response to aging fleet
KwaDukuza Mayor Ricardo Mthembu today, 16 April 2019, unveiled eleven new vehicles intended for key municipal service delivery departments.
Addressing officials at theKillarney Nissandealership this morning, Mthembu said council's decision to procure new fleet is a direct response to concerns around the shortage of vehicles and as a measure to complement the current stock due to its compromised physical integrity.
He said the new fleet will be much more economical andmore productive for council however; like any other tool of trade, the vehicles have a lifespan limitation and cost implications with use over time.
"The new vehicles cost less than it would costs to repair the aged fleet, we therefore remain confident that the new vehicles will empower officials to deliver more in less time because, once a vehicle goes past its useful life, it begins to cost. Aging fleet can also put drivers at risk for injury and other relative incidents as a result of issues of structural integrity. With use, automobile infrastructure ages day by day and we must be serious at ensuring that our officials receive the best tools of trade so that service delivery is efficiently delivered to the people. This is giant step forward for the municipality towards advancing the quality of services to the people and a game changing step that will take municipal services on to another level," said Mthembu.
