'Just Do It!' - ActionSA's Ballito Candidate

'Just Do It!' - ActionSA's Ballito Candidate

Date: 2021-10-21

"Just do it" is the essence of Gerard De Billot success story. He is an energetic driving force behind the betterment of Ballito and its diverse blend of residents.

Gerard became a resident of the area himself as a young boy when he was enrolled at Stanger Primary at the age of 12. After matriculating from Stanger High, he spent the next 38 years building up his business empire. He started out as a motor mechanic and through many years of hard work has built up a well- respected property portfolio, which is his primary business today.

Many will recognise the face of this local businessman and motorcar enthusiast, knowing him as a visionary within the business and community improvement arenas. Gerard is not really one to seek the limelight though, rather choosing to be hands-on in assisting or attending to, community-centric issues that arise whilst running his own businesses, all based within the Ballito precinct.

"I face every challenge with enthusiasm and aim for a solution where everybody wins" says Gerard. The evidence of what he has accomplished for the greater community thus far is plain to see wherever you look within the Ballito area. Gerard works tirelessly with local business to find ways of improving the experience of living and holidaying in the greater Ballito area so that our unique location, amenities, and way of life are given the very best platform to shine.

This is a man that has earned the respect, trust and loyalty of his peers through his actions and "Just Do It" attitude!

Gerard is the spark that ignited two remarkable initiatives (Ballito UIP and Ballito Beach Collective) and he continues to work with all the stakeholders, persistently improving and building upon the original dream.

Twelve years ago, we saw the start of the Ballito UIP, which has had a tangible impact on the quality of our roads and security whilst also focusing on the cleaning and greening of open spaces. The newer initiative, Ballito Beach Collective, was born twelve months ago and looks after the coastline from Zimbali gate to Willards Beach.

The number one priority for Gerard is to maintain economic growth in the Dolphin Coast. "We have beaches that are considered some of the most beautiful in the world, with weather that allows for year-round enjoyment. Most of my focus has been on the community, as it is not only an investment into the area but speaks directly to the emotional connection I have with this beautiful part of the country, which we call home. I believe we can achieve so much more through supporting and uplifting local communities so that Ballito is a secure, clean and thriving area for everybody."

On any typical day around Ballito, you will find UIP attending to some project or other, hard at work fixing, cleaning and refreshing our public spaces; while the beaches along our extraordinary stretch of coastline have become a safe, enjoyable place for an outing for all communities thanks to the Ballito Beach Collective.

In order to achieve this, various engagements have taken place to promote a multi layered approach to the management of day-to-day issues with regard to traffic flow, alleviating traffic congestion, multi passenger vehicles and consumption of alcohol on the beach. The outcome resulted in working agreements with various institutions including SAPS and the local taxi Association.

Gerard is embarking on an exciting new path with ActionSA, which will put him into a space that enables him to directly influence change and create job opportunities.

"As the Ward 30 ActionSA candidate my vision is to:

* Improve municipal Infrastructure which includes water and electricity supply

* Facilitate strong public and private partnerships with our local municipality

* Increase employment opportunities"

And he will just do it.
