Team Ford Racing Head To The Mother City

Team Ford Racing Head To The Mother City

Date: 2012-04-03
Team Ford Racing head to Cape Town, for the second round of the Bridgestone Production Car Championship, upbeat for another good set of results.

Killarney suits the Castrol Ford Focus ST's with a series of long straights and high speed sweeping corners. The marque has historically always done well at the picturesque Cape Town circuit and will use their years of set-up experience to ensure that they set the pace.

Already first and third in the championship, the team look set to emulate their 2011 success and will build their season from a consistent set of finishing results rather than outright performance.

"Our aim last year was to prepare a car capable of running consistent laps throughout the day rather than concentrating on fast qualifying times. This really worked for us and we will continue with this strategy throughout the year," explained Shaun Duminy.

The team's strategy has ensured that Gary Formato goes into this round leading the championship. He has 27 points, with Volkswagen GTI competitor, Graeme Nathan second with 22 points. Shaun Duminy is also among the leading contenders, with 20 points in third place.

"I am in the fortunate position that I have a wingman in Shaun. He is able to fend off the competition, leaving me able to focus on getting maximum points whilst looking after my tyres. This is vital in the longer third race which is for double points," commented Gary Formato.
