Linette and Alton van Aswegen have always had a dream, their dream started twelve years ago on the tiny Indonesian Island of Bali, while on holiday. They fell in love with the age old tradition of craftsmanship, handed down from one generation to the next, and were enthralled with the love, which is applied to each hand-crafted item.
"Anton and I travelled to Bali in early 2000 and we just fell in love with the culture and the craftsmen in Bali," Linette spoke to The Bugle from her new warehouse in Imbuyeni Park in Shakashead, "We travel to Indonesia, and visit small villages and larger cities in search of unique Indonesian furniture and dÈcor accessory items. The woods commonly used in Indonesia is Teak Wood, Suar Wood, Mahogany Wood and many times the wood from Indonesia is recycled or reclaimed. We import benches, daybeds, console tables, stools, accessories, dining room tables and much more.Mahogany Woodis a long lasting wood that is very hard and is mostly used in making fine quality furniture. It is a unique type of wood, which is known for its lovely grain and dark, red-brown shade that gives an age-old look to the furniture.Teak Woodis grown and harvested under Government control with a strong reforestation program in force."
Linette's latest collection is unique and well sourced. Beautiful side tables made from intricate pieces of wood with colourful resins imbedded in their surfaces, are completely original and distinctive. The mother of pearl chandeliers and the sandstone wall panels are truly exquisite and so unique.
The business' name originates from the word 'Putri' which means 'lady, princess or daughter'. "We decided on the name Putri Bali as it portrays the style of a lady or princess in the furniture pieces we source from Bali and other parts of Indonesia," said Linette.
Linette and Anton recently branched out with their operation, and now they take their clients, shop owners and interior decorators, to Bali to choose their own amazing pieces. The clients were mesmerized, not only by the beauty of Bali and the Balinese culture, but also with their willingness to go out of their way to get you what you need. Clients follow the journey of their imports from when they choose their item, to when it gets packed for shipping and all the way until it's delivered to their doorstep!
At Putri Bali their aim is to eliminate the middleman, who contributes to the high costs on imported goods. So why not buy directly from the Importer
"We all have choices in life and one of them is to make our homes beautiful and comfortable, so we offer you the choice to buy direct from the importer or to go along to Bali on a shopping experience you will never forget!" said Linette. "If you can't come along, order or design your own piece of furniture, which will be crafted by hand and you will get exceptional value that no retailer will ever be able to match or offer you!"
