Twenty Thirteen gets underway and numerology springs to mind with the number thirteen

Twenty Thirteen gets underway and numerology springs to mind with the number thirteen. Traditionally thirteen is viewed as an unlucky number, for me it has always been a very lucky number so there goes that folklore. If you add all the numbers in 2013 together their total is 6. Another number that has been tainted with negative connotations, however, putting all the superstitions aside, six is also not so bad, so all in all this should be a fantastic year for everyone and I hope that for you it is just that.

For some people I am sure it won't be that fantastic and of those for whom this is true, my prayers go out to the Syrians caught up in a political struggle that is really not their fight. I know that most of them just want to work hard, earn enough money to feed and clothe their children and provide a good education for them so that they can have a better chance in life. Isn't that what we all want? Well maybe not all of us, I laughed so hard I nearly fell off my seat when I read Zapiro's latest cartoon with Jacob Zuma asking father Christmas, who looked a lot like like Cyril Ramaphosa, for a maternity ward in Nkandla for Christmas. ROTFLMAO.

I'm sure that it is just Zapiro's warped sense of humour and that Jacob actually wants other things for Christmas even though a maternity ward might come in handy. Jacob's desire to bring back the school inspectors is a step in the right direction, by my estimation, and any effort we can make as a country to improve our education system can only stand us in good stead. With Cyril now firmly back in the position I always thought he should be, maybe Jacob will be bolstered by his support and manage to pull this plane out of the virtual nose dive it seems to be in.

Just like America slipped off it's fiscal cliff because the politicians couldn't reach an agreement, each party trying to sway the issues to their viewpoint, maybe our politicians will put their particular parties perspectives aside and do what is best for the country as a whole. Maybe we too can bounce back, like America did after they saw that there was no real alternative, and we can work together for the common good of every South African. That is my hope for our country in 2013.

In any event out there in the big wide world Nicolas Sarcosi is finally being investigated for the 50 million Euro he borrowed, under dubious circumstances, from Maumar Ghadafi and I want to get behind the drive to bring rapists to justice. The landmark case in India has highlighted this scourge of humanity. I can't believe that any self-respecting human being could honestly think that a woman who dresses provocatively is inviting rape. This is absolutely absurd and anyone who thinks this needs to seek psychological assistance. No woman ever wants to be raped. The trick is to prevent woman from falsely accusing someone of rape and to firmly punish any perpetrator of this crime. Castration is my suggestion .
