The New Kia Optima

The New Kia Optima

Date: 2012-05-02
The new Kia Optima is a completely fresh design from the ground up, and consequently Kia's latest generation of its popular mid-size sedan. It is completely transformed, embodying a bold, athletic and sporty visual energy.

Under the direction of Kia's Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer, the Kia design teams have created the third-generation Optima, boasting highly competitive performance as well as an all-inclusive luxurious package.

"With the all-new Optima, our global design team has created a vehicle with distinctive dimensions and proportions that stands apart from everything else in its segment. Using an all-new platform and bodyshell, the Optima moves our mid-size sedan product up to the next level of Kia's design revolution," comments Ray Levin, CEO, Kia Motors South Africa.

Kia's product concept behind the creation of new Optima focused on four key areas. Stand-out Styling - a unique exterior with a driver-oriented interior, Excellent Performance - a competitive and more efficient engine with a six-speed transmission, Superior Packaging - new, longer wheelbase platform and Advanced Features - high-tech features to boost Optima's status and Kia's brand identity. The Optima model will be available with the 2.4 litre Theta II petrol engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 'Theta II' engine features numerous design enhancements, with a two-stage Variable Induction System (VIS), Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (DCVVT), upgraded electronics and low-friction components, while also featuring lighter construction.

The new Optima comes standard with an array of luxurious features, as well as a few new features, never before seen on any Kia in the local market.

Some of these features include an all new 8-speaker InfinityTM Sound System, heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats, Xenon HID headlamps with built-in Daytime Running Lights, keyless entry with Stop/Start button, sporty 18-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity, as well as an optional, full panoramic sunroof, to name a few.

The new Optima presents buyers with a range of state-of-the-art active and passive safety systems and equipment as standard. Available active safety technologies to help Optima drivers avoid potential accident situations will include ESC (Electronic Stability Control), TCS (Traction Control System), BAS (Brake Assist) and HAC (Hill-start Assist Control).
