Where has all the time gone?
Where has all the time gone?
But having a less busy life isn't just about freeing up more time for ourselves, it's about creating a more meaningful life, and making choices that allow us to spend our precious time in the most valuable way for ourselves, our loved ones, and our community.
In two sleeps I will be leaving my home in search of adventure. Taking my husband and two adult sons with me in the hope that this journey will bring us closer together as much as it will allow us to part when the time comes for them to leave for Stellenbosch. 2015 is going to be an interesting year for me. I am scared to even contemplate it so maybe I just skip that completely and move on.
There are a many people who are not going to be taking time off this Festive Season and so to all those that have to work on this Christmas and New Year all I can say is, "Hang in there, January is around the corner."To everyone who is giving up their precious family time this Festive Season to help others, I want to say, "Thank you!" our communities are truly grateful for the time you devote to helping others.
To all the doctors and nurses on call, and the ambulance personnel, thank you for the passion and dedication. Thank you for caring about others enough in giving up your time with your loved ones. To surf lifesavers, the rescue operatives, the emergency employees and the disaster management teams. Thank you for your dedication.
Christmas, they tell us, is'the most wonderful time of the year'. What they don't tell us is what we're supposed to do when it isn't.As the cards and carols like to remind us, Christmas is a time for families and togetherness, peace and well being for all. If only the problems in life paid more attention to the songs on the radio.
It's easy to get caught up in what we think the "perfect" Christmas should look like and be. If we let go of our expectations and spend December living more intentionally and in the present moment, we can learn to spend our time in ways that add value to our lives and those of our loved ones. Just because we have celebrated Christmas a certain way in the past, does not mean that we have to follow the same traditions and expectations, if they no longer fit with our current lifestyle.
Be honest with yourself: what works well, and what doesn't work so well? A perfect Christmas is not what you see in magazines or on TV, but it's what you make it. Don't strive for perfect, strive for special, we can make small changes to the way we approach the holiday season. In doing so, we create a more fulfilling time of year that allows us to focus on the important aspects of the celebration of Christmas. We can choose how we spend our time, so let's be more intentional with our choices and lets include others in our plans.
