Sembcorp Siza Water Campaign

Sembcorp Siza Water Campaign

Date: 2013-04-05
More than one billion people around the world have no access to clean water and things are getting worse. Over the next two decades, the average supply of water per person will drop by a third. This is the legacy that our children will inherit, and as individuals and organisations we need to work together to carefully nurture a culture of responsible usage and preservation of this most precious resource.

Water is life- Respect it, Conserve it, Enjoy it! That is the slogan for the 2013 National Water Week which runs from 18 - 24 March, and aims to bring about awareness of the importance of conserving this most valuable resource, which is seriously threatened by pollution and excessive usage.

True to their commitment to responsible water management, Sembcorp Siza Water once again hosted a successful schools outing, highlighted by fun edutainment activities for 60 learners and their educators from six local schools in their service area.

Also participating in the day's activities were representatives from Amachosha and Silkhulisa Imvelo, two local community environmental groups who are actively championing for environmental awareness and conservation.

The event took place at Salt Rock Beach on the 21st of March and began with a welcoming address by the director of Sembcorp Siza Water, Dr M Mokoape.

The day's line-up included a 'Life on Rocky Shore' treasure hunt game, a beach clean-up and recycling action, discussion on water pollution and conservation by WESSA representative Charissa Jaganath, and finished off with a picnic lunch on the lawns of the Salt Rock Country Club.

The enthusiastic and eager learners will act as true 'water ambassadors' by creating their own 'story board' recounting their discoveries and learning's from the day, in order to bring the message back to the classroom and share with their classmates.

Each participant also received a backpack loaded with a water bottle and school stationery which was generously sponsored by Sembcorp Siza Water.

Our children are our future and with the help of dedicated and committed organisations like Sembcorp Siza Water, our future is starting to look a little brighter.
