The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France Underway

The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France Underway

Date: 2018-10-12

Plage Des Culs Nus in Hossegor, Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France and The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France, Stop Number 9 on this year's World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour (CT), is underway as we go to press with Round 2 in building four-to-six foot waves at Culs Nus.

After nearly a week of lay days for the Quiksilver Pro France, the men's event will be underway following women's Round 2.

WSL Commissioner, Kieren Perrow spoke enthusiastically saying, "The swell lines have really arrived today and should continue to fill in the rest of the day. We just have to deal withthose challenging tides." Up first in the women's event were Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS) and Pauline Ado (FRA) vying for the Roxy Pro France title.

The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro France is being broadcast LIVE on WorldSurfLeague.com and the WSL's Facebook page.

Meanwhile in São Francisco Do Sul, Brazil, surfers from Peru and Argentina dominated at the first event promoted by newly implemented WSL South America Women's Surfing Ambassador, Marina Werneck. Melanie Giunta (PER), earned the event's highest scores to take home her maiden victory on the Qualifying Series over Monik Santos (BRA), at the 2018 São Chico Eco Festival Women's QS 1,500.

"This feels amazing," said Giunta. "Monik (Santos) is an incredible competitor and I knew I had to surf my best to beat her. Before my heat, Mimi (Dominic Barona) told me to go out there and have fun because I had nothing to lose. I tried to follow her advice and thankfully everything worked out perfectly."

The Peruvian felt right at home in Brazil and was delighted to win her first QS event at the São Chico Eco Festival.
