Kawasaki's twin-cylinder ER-6f

Kawasaki's twin-cylinder ER-6f

Date: 2012-04-25
Romulus and Remus, Ronnie and Ronnie Kray, Apollo and Artemis...The list of famous twins goes on and on, and Kawasaki's twin-cylinder ER-6f and ER-6n are amongst the best. Launched in 2006, the very practical 650cc parallel twins were comprehensively revamped for 2009, by which time the engineers were already beavering away at a complete redesign for 2012. The fruit of their labours arrives in South Africa this month, and the 2012 Kawasaki ER-6f and ER-6n are the best yet.

The water-cooled fuel-injected Kawasaki engine remains essentially the same as that of its predecessor, being compact, smooth and powerful enough to take the bikes to well over 200 km/h very quickly without complaint from anybody except the authorities. The transmission is a cassette unit mounted above the crankshaft to keep the engine short, and linerless plated cylinder bores allow for reduced width. A semi-dry sump lubrication system enables the engine height to be minimised and the centre of gravity lowered.

For 2012 the f and n versions have had their intake and exhaust systems tweaked and their engine management systems fettled to produce an even wider, more user-friendly spread of torque. Output is now 53 kW at 8500 rpm and 64 Nm. of torque at 7000.

The main changes for 2012 are - well, everything except the engine. The styling is new, and all the revised plastics hang on an all-new double-pipe frame and swing arm that's slimmer and lower, offering even nimbler handling than that of the outgoing models, that were already outstanding in that department. Motorcycle magazines and websites have enthusiastically received the new Kawasaki ER-6f and ER-6n motorcycles since their launches.

The Kawasaki ER-6n and ER-6f come with a two year unlimited distance warranty. The ER-6n is priced at R75 995.00 and the fully faired F model at R79 995.00 Get down to East Coast Motorcycles for more info on this exciting news.
