Getting the Basics

Getting the Basics

Date: 2019-09-06

The Domino Foundation is forging strategic partnerships with businesses and corporates across the city to address the urgent needs of some of its 12500 daily beneficiaries. Cathy Whittle, leader of the Foundation's Feeding programme pointed out that, through some of these partnerships, Domino is extending its work into areas around Ethekwini where it hasn't previously ventured.

Each month, Seaview-based FFS Refiners provide relief hampers to 230 learners at two schools in the Rossburgh area South of Durban. If they have registered a 90% attendance rate, the pupils at Phambili High School and Rossburgh High School, who have been identified by a committee of educators at their respective school, receive the hampers donated by FFS. In a similar way, learners from Sea View Primary receive relief feeding via their already established tuck shop on a daily basis.

A leading supplier of industrial heating fuels in the country, FFS Refiners partners with The Domino Foundation's Feeding programme to meet some of the fundamental needs of the learners and their families. The hampers contain basic foodstuffs and toiletries and this winter FSS augmented their donation with tracksuits, jerseys and school shoes to the same learners.

FFS Managing Director, Andrew Canning, commented at the August donation, "FFS are actively involved in several projects and initiatives focused on lightening the burden some members of our community are having to carry."

Cathy Whittle, leader of The Domino Foundation's Feeding programme said, "We are thrilled to partner with such a forward thinking company like FFS and their willingness to investigate the needs of schools in their area and then make an impactful change."
