ACDP Commemorates International Day For Older Persons

ACDP Commemorates International Day For Older Persons

Date: 2015-10-16
October 1, 2015 was recognised as International Day for Older Persons. The United Nations has adopted this day to respond to the opportunities and challenges of the population aging in the 21st century. All over the world this day is intended to raise awareness of Older Persons and to promote the development of a society for all ages.

In accordance with the above and to mark the celebration of International Day for Older Persons Cllr. Nel Sewraj and members of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) in Kwadukuza spent their morning with the ladies of the Ballito Wednesday Club.

The ladies were treated to a high tea and a mini manicure. The Wednesday Club was honoured for their incredible charitable work within the community. The Wednesday Club is involved in numerous community outreaches with organisations such as the Westbrook Retirement Home, St Luke's Home, Sunfield Home and the Cancer Support Network. They also assist needy families with food hampers.

Ballito Ward Committee member, Michelle Annet Sewraj, was present to direct the programme and speak to the ladies of the Club. Cllr Nel Sewraj also delivered a short address and the event.

"Older people occupy a special place in the heart of the ACDP KwaDukuza. They were voting for the ACDP in this community from 1994 and prior to have any formal party representation in the area. Also, when we first opened an ACDP branch in Ballito back in 2010, older people like the Late Vic Hartog and Brian and Helen Bowyer served as the first official branch members and worked tirelessly to propagate the vision of a godly government. Thus the ACDP is ever indebted to older persons in this community." Said Cllr Nel Sewraj.

The Wednesday Club women are special and hearty bunch of seniors. The ACDP commends them for the tremendous community initiatives they are engaged in. We would like to see the Wednesday Club membership growing and the ACDP will like to continue to assist and partner with the Wednesday Club in reaching out to society." Concluded Cllr Nel Sewraj.
