Foton Targets Main Stream Pick-Ups With New Tunland

Foton Targets Main Stream Pick-Ups With New Tunland

Date: 2012-11-01
Foton may be a relative newcomer to the South African vehicle market, but it is a company making rapid progress in growing production and sales worldwide, and is the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world.

The exciting launch of the new Foton Tunland has set the local one-ton pick-up market ablaze with this 4X4 competitor costing between R50 000 - R100 000 less than its mainstream rivals.

"The launch of Tunland in South Africa marks the international debut of this vehicle, which is seen as a very important new addition to the Foton range as it targets export markets," explained the managing director of Foton SA, Brett Soso.

The Foton Tunland double cab not only matches up or beats its premium range rivals in terms of on- and off-road performance, but it also has one of the most spacious interiors in the premium one-ton pick-up market. Its loadbox dimensions are very competitive too. Fitted with the ISF 2,8-litre Cummins turbo intercooled diesel engine, which develops 120kW of power at 3 600r/min and 360N.m of torque at 1 800r/min, which can use the 500ppm diesel, making the Tunland that much more desireable to farmers and long distance applications of the double cab. The Cummins ISF engine is economical on fuel too, with a combined cycle figure of 8,3l/100km, while their emission rating is only 219gm/km.

There is a comprehensive range of convenience features, including air conditioning, an audio system with MP3 and USB compatibility, electric operation of the windows, with auto down on all of them and auto up and down on the driver's windows for the Lux model. Rear park distance control is standard on both 4x4 models. The inside of the spacious loadbox has a protective coating.

The Tunland is covered by a 3-year/100 000km warranty, a 5-year/70 000km service plan, three-year corrosion warranty and roadside assistance for three years.

"We see the Tunland as a reliable pick-up, capable of hard work and offering good performance on all fronts. This vehicle is suitable both for the executive looking for a versatile work and recreational vehicle as well as those working in occupations, such as the farming community, where a tough and reliable pick-up is a tool of trade. It is also aimed at those people with a love of the outdoors as our first models will have four-wheel drive and a go-anywhere capability," added the Foton SA MD.
