Superb Selborne Soiree

Superb Selborne Soiree

Author: Tomas Yoko
Date: 2016-04-01
It was a really good friends birthday celebration, one we could not miss, however he lived in Pennington on the South Coast, so we faced the option of staying with him in his half finished house or booking a place to stay for the weekend away.

Top of mind was Selborne Golf Estate Hotel and Spa, news of the recent refurbishment had reached our ears and were looking forward to the grandeur and luxury that we remembered from our previous visit.

Well we were very pleasantly surprised. The Estate and the fabulous level of service we received from the new management were a treat. We were a large party of revellers and so we booked two four balls for a round of birthday golf on the world class 18 hole golf course of the estate.

It was a perfect day and the course was in pristine condition. We met up with our fellow four-ball at the halfway house and shared the usual golf anecdotes. Breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast and coffee was the most popular order and then it was off to the tenth tee, cooler boxes replenished.

We arrived at our room after the golf and were shown the golf bag cupboard outside our room, where our bag can be stored and our golf shoes can be left for cleaning.

We stayed in a Garden Suite, luxuriously appointed with air-conditioning, satellite television and a leafy shaded terrace. I watched the rugby on TV while my wife spent a luxurious hour at the Wellness Spa.

Dinner at the Lord Selborne restaurant was wonderful, the atmosphere filled with soft light and so much starched white tablecloth. This is fine dining and sophistication without all the airs and graces, but with the flavours of high-class cuisine.

Drinks in the Hunter's Lounge lead to an evening of good humour in a really relaxed yet extremely plush setting. The easy going attitude of the barman and staff made us all feel very much at home. Soon we were laughing till there were tears in our eyes and ordering another last round.

With four conferencing venues, a large swimming pool and a private beach club, your next excursion down the South Coast should have Selborne Hotel, Spa and Golf Estate as one of your destinations. With all they have to offer and their exemplary service attitude, you will not want to leave, we didn't.
