KwaDukuza Heaps Praise For Mandela

KwaDukuza Heaps Praise For Mandela

Date: 2013-12-20
Praise for the global icon Nelson Mandela, went large as the nation observed ten days in mourning, ahead of his state funeral in Qunu.

Dressed in sombre shades of grey and black, community leaders and municipal officials in KwaDukuza, lined up to lay wreaths near a giant portrait of the former President who departed last week.

A book of condolences that will be sent to the Mandela family was placed near the image of the former statesman.

Hailed as a man who left an erasable mark in the history of the world, the global icon was laid to rest on Sunday.

The political prisoner who later emerged as President of the country in 1994 was described as a man who left indelible footprints in the struggle for liberation.

KwaDukuza Mayor, Ricardo Mthembu described the celebrated icon as a gallant fighter who became the face of the revolution against the oppressive government.

He said the loss of this great leader leaves a gaping hole. "Mandela spoke, we toed the line, nobody can be like him" he emphasised.

The Regional Secretary, of the African National Congress, Muzi Sithole said the demise of the father of the nation is just like a fruit that has been plucked from a tree.

He described him as a revolutionary who got his hands dirty for the people, saying that South Africans have a good story to tell as Mandela remains close at heart.

"He couldn't separate his freedom for the freedom of other people" he said.
