Sublime Sturdy Sorento AWD

Sublime Sturdy Sorento AWD

Date: 2013-12-20
The hugely successful Kia Sorento sports a host of significant improvements, which includes a re-engineered bodyshell, an enhanced powertrain for better fuel economy with lower emissions, improved ride, handling and refinement, additional convenience and safety features, plus an All-Wheel-Drive derivative.

The single ratio (High) AWD system delivers 100% of engine torque to the front wheels during all routine city and highway driving.  Whenever a front wheel loses grip, a percentage of torque (up to 50%) is automatically transferred on-demand to the rear wheels to maintain forward motion. For improved traction and greater safety while driving in severely slippery conditions the driver can manually select 'Lock Mode'. This mode splits the torque 50/50 between the front and rear axles for better stability and maintain that split up to a speed of 40 km/h.

The gearbox fitted to this model is the world's most compact six-speed unit and boosts exceptional fuel economy.

While the AWD derivative of the Kia Sorento allows you to go places you may not have been to before, you can rest assured that the AWD system is well supported by the Sorento's six-speed automatic transmission, and you can choose between a 2WD package or an AWD package.

The six-speed transmissions feature high top-gear ratios chosen to reduce fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions when cruising at speed, and low first-gear ratios to enable drivers to fully exploit the Sorento's performance on-road or over rougher terrain. It features two operating modes - fully automatic or a 'Sport' mode.  For city driving, fully automatic mode is ideal, while 'Sport' mode allows for clutch-less sequential manual gear changes - up or down, one ratio at a time - for greater driver involvement.

Sorento buyers can select from two advanced drivetrains, 2WD or AWD, to best match the abilities of their new Kia vehicle to their individual lifestyle.

The Kia Sorento features the R2.2 TCI (Turbo Charged Inter-cooler) diesel engine. The 2.2-liter, 146.9 kW TCI engine produces 436.4 Nm @ 1800-2500 rpm, and reaches 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds on the AWD automatic mode.
