This year, the Grande Dame of KwaZulu-Natal, the Beverly Hills Hotel, celebrates 50 years since it first opened its doors in 1964. Sol Kerzner's inaugural hotel, named after his daughter, Beverly, was the first hotel in the province to achieve five-star status.
To commemorate this great milestone, the Beverly Hills Hotel will be hosting a variety of culinary events during the course of 2014, including a number of indulgent high teas and ladies' lunches.
Last Thursday we celebrated the magnificent flavours of Chef Tony Koch's culinary genius with Domaine Des Dieux Wines. The Wine and food pairing evening was presented by wine maker Sharon Parnell and was held in the plush Plantation Room. The flavour combinations were sublime as Crab Nage was paired with the subtle Sauvignon Blanc, Grilled asparagus and Thai spiced pork wontons tantalised our taste buds with the Chardonnay 2011 and wild game of Guinea fowl, Kudu medallion and Springbok loin with rich mushroom sauce supremely matched the sophisticated Domaine des Dieux Pinot Noir 2010. The gastronomic affair ended on a high note with a memorable Mango mousse topped with pomegranate jelly and blue berry caviar.
