KwaDukuza Congratulates 2015 Ballito Pro champion, Alejo Muniz

KwaDukuza Municipality salutes Brazilian surfer, Alejo Muniz, the 2015 champion of the world's longest running professional surfing event, the Ballito Pro presented by Billabong.

Muniz, 25, pulled out victory over Davey Cathels (AUS), 24, in the 40-minute Final held in pristine 1.0 to 1.5 metre beach break waves at Surfer's Beach in KwaDukuza on Sunday, 05 July 2015, to consolidate his lead at the top of the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) rankings.

"We hail great salutes to Alejo Muniz our new champion - for claiming his deserved victory that stands as a fitting cause for pride and celebration for the people of his beloved country, Brazil. We also share the pride of the people of KwaDukuza in hosting the continent's biggest beach festival in Ballito, the jewel of KwaZulu-Natal's North Coast.

The Ballito Pro featured 96 of the world's best surfers on the Qualifying Series (QS), 10,000 rated event on the World Surf League (WSL).

The Ballito Pro Festival saw tens of thousands of locals and holiday-makers enjoying a week of beach, music and extreme sports entertainment. The festival ran from June 28 to July 5 and with a record number of over 10 000 visitors enjoying festivities.

In 2015 Billabong took the baton from Mr Price, agreeing to carry on the proud legacy of the world's longest running professional surfing event in its 47th year.

The Ballito Pro presented by Billabong was proudly supported by the KwaDukuza Municipality, Billabong, 5FM, Monster Energy, Zigzag Surfing Magazine, World Surf League (WSL) and Surfing South Africa (SSA).
