Learn-To-Swim With Princess Charlene Of Monaco Foundation

Learn-To-Swim With Princess Charlene Of Monaco Foundation

Date: 2013-08-01
There was great excitement as Dominique Donner, a Consultant to the Learn-to-Swim programme of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation kicked off at Ashton International College's pool this weekend. 48 youngsters between the ages of 6 and 17 years from Summerhill House in Etete were the first to be selected for the Clinic which will run over an 8 week period.

"This is the first of the clinics and we hope to roll out the programme firstly to KZN and then introduce it into the other provinces," said Dominique. The programme is designed to introduce children to water, preparing them to cope in case of an emergency. The Princess Charlene Foundation also includes other sporting codes and the Learn-To-Swim programme is only one arm of the Foundation. The swimming coaches are paid by the Foundation to assist with the programme, but volunteers and additional assistance was needed to implement the programme successfully.

"At the same time, the Foundation will assist young talented swimmers with funding to further their careers, and two of the first youngsters is Ashton's Zo? Frank and Kwezi Dhuma, both competing in the girls 12 and under age group at the moment," added Dominique.

"I would like to place on record my sincere appreciation to all the volunteers, sponsors of the transport - Zulu Kyalami Transport, Aquellé, members from Seals, and Ashton International College for their support," said Dominique.
